Purpose & key responsibilities of the role

As a member of the site’s Senior Leadership Team, the Safety, Health & Environment Manager will oversee compliance with legal & corporate SHE requirements, and advise on every aspect of SHE relating to regulatory, technical, organisational and managerial systems affecting Lenzing in the UK. The scope of the role covers all the responsibilities facilitating safe operation of the plant, plus all UK employees working from home in line with current legislation. 


Main tasks & key responsibilities

  • You will incorporate Global Safety, Health & Environment work-streams in to local SHE Strategy, managing the implementation of site compliance with Global policies, standards & initiatives across SHE
  • You will manage the implementation of the site’s Integrated Management System (including internal & external audits); and the implementation of the local SHE strategy & associated legal compliance obligations, including intervention visits & reporting to Regulatory Bodies
  • You will ensure compliance with the site‘s two Environmental Permits, and establish & maintain a proactive relationship with the Regulatory Bodies and the Counter Terrorism Police
  • You will ensure that the Grimsby operation is compliant with all aspects of Site Protection and associated legal obligations: site security, fire safety, emergency preparedness, radiation protection, provision of site emergency support, and first aid systems
  • You will manage the Grimsby site SHE Team, comprising 3 direct reports, and be responsible for their development and competence levels
  • You will advise the site Directors on risk management, compliance obligations, and areas of potential improvement; and act as key a participant in collaborative compliance activities

  • You hold a relevant degree, and/or a NEBOSH diploma or professional qualification
  • You have extensive experience of SHE leadership in a chemical or manufacturing environment
  • You are an effective leader, with the skills and ability to proactively change SHE culture
  • You have a proven ability to influence across all levels of the business, both internally and externally
  • You are a great communicator and an excellent people manager, and you can work effectively under pressure
  • You have up-to-date understanding of SHE compliance obligations, management systems, and industry best practice

The gross annual salary for this position will be up to £70,000.
