PARTNERSHIPS

Collaborating for systemic change: Lenzing’s partnerships

CREATE VALUE

In today's interconnected textile and nonwoven industries, even the most innovative fiber solutions need to create value through collaboration across the value chain. That is why Lenzing works openly with partners, sharing expertise, learning from stakeholder perspectives and developing solutions together. Our aim is to support the transition from linear and carbon intensive production models towards more circular, net-zero and transparent approaches that create systemic change.

Through different partnerships, such as renewable material alliances and textile recycling initiatives, we contribute to this transition across textile and nonwovens value chains. Our initiatives span multiple sectors, including fashion, protective textiles, personal care products and industrial applications, and involve collaborations with technology companies and research organizations among others.

Working together across the value chain

For many years, we have worked closely with partners across the value chain, from sustainable forestry, fiber production to textile and nonwoven manufacturing, brand and retailer collaboration and recycling ecosystem. Working together enables the exchange of expertise and supports the development of solutions that can be implemented at different stages of the value chain.

Partnerships along the value chain

Our partnerships across the value chain and stakeholders cover a wide range of topics, including developing textile and nonwoven applications, circularity, innovation and systemic change. The examples below provide insights into selected projects and collaborations with partners from different stages of the value chain, ranging from textile manufacturing and recycling to the development of new solutions.

Lenzing x Cobalt Fashion x Exponent Envirotech

Lenzing and Cobalt Fashion partner with Exponent Envirotech to revolutionize fashion − with ECOHUES™ waterless dyeing for regenerated cellulose fibers. This process can drastically reduce both water and dye consumption.

Glacial threads – from forest to future textiles

Biodegradable LENZING™ fibers developed for geotextile applications are used in nonwoven materials for glacier protection. In collaboration with a network of partners, Lenzing is working on solutions to recycle geotextiles after use and convert them into new textile fibers. The project received the Biodiversity and Water Award 2024 at the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards.

Lenzing x Recyc Leather x GANNI

Lenzing and Recyc Leather recently unveiled a new footwear material that combines TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers with recycled leather. This fashion-forward innovation has already been adopted by GANNI for their Slouchy Boots collection.

LEADERSHIP & PARTICIPATION

Multi-stakeholder organizations & NGOs

Lenzing drives transformation through strategic partnerships with global sustainability leaders. From serving on the boards of Textile Exchange and Cascale to co-founding the Renewable Carbon Initiative, we actively shape standards and practices across the fiber and textile industries.

Textile Exchange is global non-profit driving beneficial impacts on climate and nature in the textile and apparel industry. Their Preferred Fiber and Material Matrix (PFMM) tool recognizes Lenzing's fibers as "preferred fibers".

Cascale unites more than 300 global players in the apparel and footwear industry. As a founding member, we help advance the Higg Index tools to improve environmental and social performance of value chains and industry.

Canopy is a non-profit organization working with companies in the wood, paper, and fashion industries to protect ancient and endangered forests. Each year, Canopy publishes its Hot Button Report, which ranks producers of regenerated cellulose fibers based on their performance in sustainable wood and pulp sourcing, supply chain transparency, and innovation.

Together for Sustainability (TfS) is a global initiative founded by chemical companies. The published auditing and assessment standards foster sustainability practices along the chemical industry supply chain.

The Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI) advocates an accelerated transition away from fossil carbons towards renewable carbon sources. Lenzing founded the initiative together with eleven other companies and continues to be an actively involved member.

As a member of the UN Global Compact, Lenzing commits to aligning its business strategy and operations with ten universal principles on human rights, labor standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption. Through this voluntary initiative, Lenzing also contributes to the advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
