Better energy for better fibers
ADVANCING BIOENERGY
Manufacturing cellulose fibers requires significant amounts of energy – both process heat and electricity. At Lenzing, we’re transforming this challenge into an opportunity through innovative energy solutions.
Our science-based bioenergy policy combines cutting-edge technology with strategic shifts to renewable energy sources. Through our biorefinery concept and targeted investments in solar, wind, and biomass projects, we’re making measurable progress toward our 2030 goal: Reducing scope 1 and 2 absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42 percent and scope 3 absolute GHG emissions by 25 percent (baseline 2021). OUR LEVERS
Reduce, improve, remove
Continuous improvement
Efficiency improvements and technology upgrades throughout the Lenzing Group ensure more energy efficient operations at all sites.
Low carbon fuels and renewable energy
We reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and increase our renewable energy share. If we need to buy power, we make sure it’s from renewable sources.
Supplier engagement
We collaborate with key chemical and pulp suppliers to reduce scope 3 emissions, maintain ongoing discussions and share our expertise.
Electrification and new technologies
To drive innovation, we invest in CO₂-neutral technologies like heat pumps − and retrofit existing plants to run on renewable electricity.
Logistics
We implement sustainable logistics and transport systems using break bulk transport, reducing GHG emissions compared to container transport.
Recent projects for a greener energy mix
Our commitment to renewable energy comes to life at key production sites. Each initiative represents a carefully planned step toward our climate targets, combining innovative technologies with practical solutions for industrial-scale energy needs.
