About the fiber
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are regenerated cellulose derived from the natural raw material wood. They are known for their high tenacity profile and high moisture uptake, offering a higher perceived thermal comfort level to the wearer¹.
TENCEL™ Lyocell is also known for its innovative closed-loop production process. Wood pulp is transformed into cellulosic fibers, while more than 99.8 percent of the solvent is recovered and fed back into the loop, resulting in close-to-zero wastage².
Benefits
How you benefit from TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers
50 percent less water consumption
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are made with at least 50 percent less carbon emissions and water consumption compared to generic lyocell.³
Wood from certified or controlled sources*
The wood used as raw material for all TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers is sourced from certified or controlled wood sources⁴.
Naturally soft & smooth
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers give fabrics a natural softness, making them feel pleasant against the skin.⁵
Effective moisture control
The structure of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers allows the absorption and release of moisture. In the final textile product, these effective moisture controlling properties support a drier microclimate on the skin, increasing the wearer’s thermal comfort.¹
Unfavorable to odor-causing bacteria
Our fibers absorb sweat efficiently, resulting in reduced moisture on the fiber surface. This creates a less favorable environment for the growth of odor-causing bacteria.⁶
Tracing technology
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are produced with a molecular marker. This special identification technology ensures the authenticity and traceability of TENCEL™ fibers.
EU Ecolabel
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers certified with the EU Ecolabel have a reduced environmental impact across multiple stages of the product life cycle.⁷
Biodegradable & compostable
TENCEL™ Lyocell are biodegradability and compostability in various environments.⁸
Rich colors
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers support rich and saturated colors in fabrics.
High tenacity
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers have a high tenacity profile favoring processing stability. This enables TENCEL™ fibers to withstand faster production speeds in machinery, while at the same time making critical contributions to yarn strength and quality.
Technologies
Advanced technologies for TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers
Micro technology
Lyocell fibers produced with Micro technology are the finest fibers within the TENCEL™ portfolio. This leads to increased softness and an even higher level of comfort.
Filament technology
Lyocell produced with filament technology delivers the highest level of fiber uniformity within the TENCEL™ portfolio, designed for smoothness, strength and comfort. During production, the cellulosic solution is extruded through ultra-fine spinnerets to create continuous, parallel filament.
Manufacturing process
TENCEL™ Lyocell is known for its innovative closed loop production process. Wood pulp is transformed into cellulosic fibers, while more than 99.8 percent of the solvent are recovered and fed back into the loop, resulting in close-to-zero wastage ²
According to the Higg Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), TENCEL™ Lyocell has a significantly lower environmental impact than generic lyocell in the categories of abiotic depletion of fossil fuels, global warming, water consumption and eutrophication.³
