LENZING™ Furfural Biobased: high-purity product derived from wood
ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Furfural (C₅H₄O₂) is widely used by producers of chemicals, textiles, and biofuels for its versatile properties, including its ability to act as a solvent. It is a precursor for various chemicals and a key component in bio-based plastics.
With LENZING™ Furfural Biobased, Lenzing Group offers an alternative to conventional, fossil-based furfural. During production of dissolving wood pulp, beech wood is cooked and furfural is released and purified through a continuous process of evaporation, condensation, extraction and distillation. This results in a product of high purity: a clear, yellowish liquid with a characteristic odor of almonds.
Certifications include United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) BioPreferred® designation, confirming that LENZING™ Furfural Biobased is derived 100 percent from biobased raw materials.
