Biorefinery and co-products: Lenzing’s sustainability reputation

BIOREFINERY & CO-PRODUCTS

Wood is an incredibly valuable resource, and we believe in utilizing its full potential. We ensure that no part of the tree goes to waste by optimizing its use in both pulp and fiber production. This enables us to extract a range of valuable biorefinery and co-products, maximizing the natural resource’s potential and creating sustainable solutions at different stages of our production.

This approach reflects Lenzing’s commitment to ecological sustainability through responsible resource management and a significant reduction in emissions. Read on to explore further.

Circularity in practice: Lenzing's biorefinery concept

Wood is far too valuable to waste. At Lenzing Group, when a tree gets harvested, we use every bit of it. How do we achieve this lofty goal? In a word: biorefinery.

At our biorefineries in Lenzing (Austria), Paskov (Czechia) and Indianópolis (Brazil), we unlock wood’s natural components: pulp, various organic and inorganic compounds, and bioenergy.

Lenzing converts waste from pulp and fiber production into valuable co-products, which are then used in other industries. This exemplifies the practice of circular economy.

LENZING™ Biorefinery products arise from dissolving wood pulp production whereas LENZING™ Sodium Sulphate is a co-product, as it arises from fiber production.

All our production sites operate according to certified Environmental Management and Occupational Health and Safety systems under ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 respectively.
