Lenzing offers innovative and reliable fiber solutions for technical applications such as electrical separators, filter media, and coated fabrics, ensuring high performance and environmental responsibility.

With their fibrillar microstructure, thermal and chemical resistance, LENZING™ Lyocell Shortcut fibers are well suited to use in various types of filter media such as oil, fuel and air filters¹. Additionally, the microfibrillar structure and thermal stability of these fibers make them a suitable ingredient in electrical separators for applications such as lithium ion batteries, supercapacitors and electrolytic condensers, particularly in the automotive sector for the new generation of electric vehicles.

A further application area is the use of our fibers in coated fabrics. Among the diverse types of coated fabrics which can be produced incorporating LENZING™ fibers are abrasive fabric, laminated fabric, conveyor fabric, and fabric printing blankets.

Derived from renewable wood

LENZING™ fibers are wood-based, derived from renewable wood sources and bring the inherent advantages of cellulose to products: natural absorbency, liquid distribution, versatility. Certain LENZING™ fibers are certified for biodegradability in soil, freshwater and marine conditions and composability in home and industrial conditions².

Blending partners

LENZING™ Lyocell fibers can be combined with wood pulp and a wide range of fibers such as cotton, polyester, polyamide, and glass with regard to their performance and functionality. LENZING™ Lyocell Shortcut fibers can be combined with natural cellulosic and synthetic fibers and also with a wide range of binder resins. This combination enhances formation, performance and functionality of sheet materials.

Fiber strength

LENZING™ Lyocell fibers are available in a wide range of titers, and even fine fibers retain their tenacity and mechanical properties without tradeoffs. Finer fibers within nonwoven fabrics improve the application’s mechanical performance, especially in wet conditions. Blending with LENZING™ Lyocell Shortcut fibers brings a high tear strength into cellulosic pulp-based nonwovens.

Fibrillation

The fibrillar microstructure of LENZING™ Lyocell Shortcut fibers facilitates the liberation of sub-micron diameter micro-fibrils during wet abrasion within a refining process. Fibrillation of these fibers significantly enhances performance attributes of sheet materials, especially pore structure, permeability, filtration performance, mechanical properties, and sheet formation.
