Purpose & key responsibilities of the role

The Laboratory Technician role includes carrying out chemical and physical testing on raw materials, process intermediates and fibre, recording results, and reporting any that are out of specification.
Please note that the rota for this role  will include working up to 14x Sundays and 1 bank holiday per year, with the proceeding Friday or Monday off work.

Main tasks

  • You will ensure that “Work Requests” are carried out as required, carrying out both routine and non-routine, chemical and physical testing requirements; recording & archiving test data; and highlighting problems, variations, and out-of-specification results

  • You will develop and continuously review new and existing laboratory procedures

  • You will arrange and conduct the calibration of all laboratory instruments & the Forte meter

  • You will provide certificates of compliance and certificates of analysis as required

  • You will ensure that SHE standards and personal work performance and behaviours are appropriately managed, in line with external and internal requirements/standards

  • You will contribute to making the Laboratory a safe place to work in or visit, and ensure that high housekeeping standards are maintained

Your ideal profile
  • You have minimum GCSE Maths & English language Grade A-C (or equivalent)

  • You are able to multi-task whilst remaining accurate, careful and disciplined in all tasks

  • You have good awareness of the importance of safety within a laboratory environment, and you are willing to be be actively involved in developing the safety culture

  • You are dedicated, hardworking, self-motivated, flexible and open to adopting new practices, and able to work unsupervised or as part of a team

  • You have good verbal communication skills and basic report writing skills, and you are able to discuss issues logically

  • Experience of any of the following would be an advantage: analytical chemistry testing, wet chemistry, inaccuracies, sources of error, and sampling techniques

The gross annual salary for this position will be £28,368.
