In Detail
FILTRATION
The spinbath is forced from the top of the filter through a sand bed, in which the solids are retained. After a certain filtration time (50-60 hours), indicated by pressure drop, the operation has to be stopped and the backwashing program starts. During the backwashing of a filter, it is not available for spinbath filtration, but the other filters can remain in operation.
BACKWASHING WITH PRESSURE AIR
To remove the filtered solids from the sand, the sand filter has to be backwashed. First the spinbath level in the filter is lowered by draining a part of the spinbath either into the spinbath circulation system or to the backwash system either by gravity or using a small pump. A compressor then forces air from the bottom of the filter through the sandbed.
BACKWASHING WITH SPINBATH
The solids are removed from the sand by pumping filtered backwash bath upwards through the sand filter into the tank for unfiltered backwash bath. Because the backwash bath has the same composition as the spinbath in the circulation system, the filtration can be restarted without draining the filter.
Thus any dilution of spinbath with water, as well as loss of spinbath, can be avoided.
