Research
Lenzing AG has now been the leader in pulp fiber technology for many years. This remarkable success is the result of a long series of individual and collective efforts in the company group. A considerable share goes to the consistent research and development work carried on for decades.
The competence of Lenzing pulp research in the areas of pulping and bleaching is of the highest order. Another important part is processing pulp to fibers and other products. The lab scale facilities emulate processes on a small scale like:
- Pulping: Simulation of all current cooking technologies due to the high variability of our pilot plant equipment
- Bleaching: Already the 1970ies saw the beginning of chlorine-free bleaching technology, which has been steadily improved ever since. The basis for this was mainly developed in the Lenzing Pulp Research MC high shear mixer
- Treiber-plant: Lab scale Viscose production
- Laboratory kneaders: for production of Lyocell dope
- Lab scale fiber production: for spinning Viscose and Lyocell fibers
- Cellulose derivates: Pulp processing to cellulose acetate or else
Numerous modern analytical devices and instrumental methods with the focus on chromatography and spectroscopy allow dedicaded characterization of wood, pulp, fiber and of process media. In combination with our acquired expertise this allows us to address complex analytical questions as well.
Collaborations with universities and numerous EU projects considerably enhanced Lenzing AG pulp research. Basic research is carried out in cooperation with the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Pulp Reactivity and by participation in the Competence Center Wood.
Pulp research offers its expertise as a service internally to the Lenzing Group and externally to the industry. A large part of the external activity is realized in cooperation with Lenzing Technik. External customers approach us from a variety of wood processing, pulp producing and pulp processing enterprises. The diversity of tasks and challenges continually enhances our expertise and know-how.
