40 Years of WWF Austria - Lenzing AG Receives the "Panda Award"
21.11.2003
As a finale to the 40-years' anniversary of WWF Austria, major celebrations were held at the Interspot Film Studio in Vienna on 20 November 2003. Politicians, representatives of the business community and society people gathered to toast the occasion.
In the course of the celebrations, Thomas Fahnemann, Chairman of Lenzing AG's Board of Management, received the "Panda Award". The prize was awarded by Claude Martin, Director General of WWF International, and Prof. Dr. Helmut Pechlaner, President of WWF Austria, in recognition of Lenzing AG's support of the WWF objectives, especially the WWF Water Program, as well as of special achievements and commitments to nature conservation.
"Lenzing Lyocell meets the highest technical standards in environmental protection and offers an ecological solution to several target areas that the WWF has acknowledged to be important. Receiving the Panda Award is a confirmation of our commitment," said Thomas Fahnemann.
The Lenzing Group
For years, the Lenzing Group, with its headquarters at Lenzing in Upper Austria, has set standards in quality and innovativeness in the field of man-made cellulose fibers. The fibers (Viscose, Modal and Lyocell), made of wood, a renewable primary material, are used both by the textile industry – for fashion applications, as home textiles as well as technical textiles - and the so-called nonwovens industry (e.g. fleece materials for hygiene, medical and cosmetic applications).
In addition, the Group also operates in the engineering and systems construction sector, and as plastics and paper manufacturer.
