Record Number of Participants Continuing in 2008
The record number of participants at the DORNBIRN-MFC was favourably influenced by ITMA/Munich which was overlapping. Therefore we are particularly pleased to see that this trend is continuing in 2008, too. This time 50 % of the participants booked firmly already on basis of the detailed preliminary programme (despatched in March 2008). The frequent updates of the programme in our homepage and the introduction of the topic “last minute highlights” underline the actuality of the topics chosen.

Main Topic Sustainability Found in Many of the 120 Lectures
As an example of the 6 plenary lectures on the opening day we should like to mention the presentation of EnergijSA, which refers to the worldwide change of the important and safe supply of electricity. Changes of basic system parameters like ownership structure, market regulations, production portfolio, cost structures, supraregional power grids and social-economic requirements lead to the impression of a dramatic decrease of a safe power supply. The presentation tries to show alternatives and future aspects for central Europe and Turkey.
In view of the 114 high-quality individual lectures in 3 halls it is only possible to mention a few examples taken at random:

For the first time the company Rhodia Poliamida e Especialidades from Brasil will present a new bioactive Polyamide Fiber, that allows textile surfaces a completely new interaction with the skin, offering the consumer an increased and harmonic well-being. By using a new patented technology easy care and thermoregulatory wellness garments for end-use underwear, sport- and leisure wear will be developed.

The company Nature Works LLC/Ireland is presenting the renewable and sustainable raw-material option for INGEO®Fibers in nonwovens. As a measurement for the quantification of the impact on the environment the whole life-cycle and product related ecoprofiles are taken into consideration.

The company Invista/Wilmington/USA is presenting the ecologic aspects of man-made fibers. Starting with the production of raw-material, the production of garments and the subsequent use by the consumer until the final disposal the different ecological profiles ar presented.

The lecture of Lenzing AG refers to the ecological advantages of the use of Lyocell fibers leading to lower impacts on the environment during finishing and dyeing of TENCEL® in comparison with cotton.

Further details of all presentations can be found on our homepage http://www.dornbirn-mfc.com/.

Further Internationalisation thru Cooperation
A high ranking delegation consisting of the Presidents o the Chinese Chemical Fiber Association (CCFA) and China Textile Information Centre and representatives of the fiber-making industry will convey the inauguration greetings of this important future cooperation between these organisations and the DORNBIRN-MFC.  A closer cooperation is also envisaged with the Japanese roof organisation and important fiber-makers.  Together with the close existing contacts to umbrella organisations (CIRFS, AFMA, IVC, VDA), reknown research institutes, universities and high-schools as well as the lead industries the DORNBIRN-MFC fully complies with its claim “Communicating the Textile Future”
