World innovation: comfort foam with TENCEL® powder for perfect moisture management.

Innovative co-operation project between Lenzing and Eurofoam

For the first time Eurofoam and Lenzing are presenting the unique cellpur comfort foam featuring active climate management at Interzum in Cologne (13 to 16 May 2009, hall 10.2, booth number F031).

Natural reduction of mite growth
Combined with this open-pored foam, TENCEL®, which is made from the natural raw material of wood, creates a sleeping climate which is particularly pleasant as well as being drier. This helps to keep allergies at bay since it denies dust mites what they ultimately need to survive. Tests prove that cellpur helps to nip the growth of mites in the bud. The dry environment which cellpur creates and the climate control effect prevent this from happening. The air humidity which is produced as we sleep is absorbed by the foam and then rapidly released.

cellpur – for an ergonomic sleep
cellpur is available in three different degrees of hardness . Thus everyone can find the mattress which suits them best. A perfect cutting technology gives you a foam on which you can lie in the correct ergonomic way. In addition, cellpur foam has an open-pored cell structure and is dimensionally stable as well as being air-permeable and having good breathing properties. Thus this foam meets all of the demands made of a modern mattress core and high-quality upholstered furniture.

Two Austrian companies competent in the field of research and development
The development of this foam innovation is the result of intensive co-operation between Lenzing and Eurofoam. For the first time, the development departments of both of these companies have managed to integrate TENCEL® in foam in a functional manner. The idea for a TENCEL® powder stems from efforts to find applications for the eco-friendly TENCEL® process beyond the textile segment“, Dieter Eichinger, Head of the  Business Unit Textiles in Lenzing, comments. „In a powder form TENCEL® has the same properties as the conventional fiber and it enhances the absorption potential of the foam when it comes to moisture two times over“, Eichinger continues. „The functional combination of the TENCEL® powder with foam is a first around the world“, the MD of Eurofoam, Manfred Marchgraber, adds and he emphasizes the unique position of this innovative product.

TENCEL® - The new age fiber
Thanks to its unique nano structure, a breakthrough was achieved in modern fiber technology with TENCEL®. The cellulose fiber is as soft as silk, as strong as polyester, as cool as linen, as warm as wool and more absorptive than cotton. The fiber absorbs moisture in a completely natural way and releases it again very quickly. TENCEL® is hydrophilic and ensures optimum moisture absorption. The moisture transport of  TENCEL® is superior to that of synthetic fibers. Even with an air humidity of 65 percent, TENCEL® still has free capacity compared to other fibers to divert moisture from the skin.

A unique combination of experience and innovation
More than 50 years after the first foam was produced, Eurofoam is Europe’s leading foam manufacturer. The dense network of production and processing sites all over Europe guarantees maximum security of supply to customers. Due to the company’s continuing expansion into Eastern Europe, Greiner decided to join forces with a Belgian partner, Recticel S.A., for investments in the flexible foam segment. As a result, Eurofoam GmbH was founded in 1993 as a 50:50 Joint Venture.

Versatile fields of production and applications
In Austria Eurofoam has foaming plants in Kremsmünster and Linz, cutting facilities in Graz and Innsbruck and an administrative office in Vienna.
In Kremsmünster Eurofoam produces foams for the upholstery, leisure furniture and mattress and clothing industries and convert them into semi-finished products. It also provides specialized and safety packaging solutions.
In Linz, Eurofoam produces, amongst many other things, foams for the technical industry. For example for laminates, and for the sports footwear industry, while the Audiotec division concentrates on noise insulation. Its many years of experience producing and processing sound proofing and sound absorbing materials is particularly appreciated by customers requiring specialized solutions. The most important areas of application are industrial plants, commercial vehicles and room acoustics.
