New feel-good brand for comforters out of Lenzing Fibers
15.01.2009
At Heimtextil 2009 in Frankfurt, Lenzing is presenting the new „SleepFacto®“ feel-good concept. For the first time the functionality of a complete comforter is being examined. If the feel-good parameters are fulfilled, the product is given the brand.
Combination of materials ensures an optimum sleeping comfort
For many years Lenzing has researched applications for the special TENCEL® fiber and its contribution towards sleep comfort. Studies have been performed by dermatologists and sleep experts to test the properties of TENCEL® and its positive effects during the night sleep. Thus it was discovered that both the fibers used and how they are blended are particularly important for a relaxing sleep. The higher the moisture absorption, the drier the sleeping area this is precisely what guarantees for a healthy sleep. Due to its high moisture absorption, TENCEL® is particularly well suited for use in comforters – both in the ticking itself as well as in the form of a filling material. The nano-fibrils in the TENCEL® fiber are hydrophilic and ensure the very best climate regulation properties. They act like microscopic channels which control the absorption and release of moisture. In this way the sleeping area remains pleasantly dry. Moreover the protection against mites and bacteria is important for comforters. TENCEL® reduces the growth of these micro-organisms both automatically and in an absolutely natural way. As a result of the high moisture absorption, the growth of bacteria with TENCEL® is two thousand times lower than compared to synthetics. The Lenzing Modal® fiber is characterized by a particularly soft and pleasant hand. It is likewise used in tickings for comforters in blends with cotton and synthetic fibers. Thus it is the “mix” which is important: a comforter with a high share of Lenzing Fibers can considerably improve the sleeping comfort. The new „SleepFacto®“ brand, which examines the functionality of the comforter, is now being given to perfect feel-good products.
Principles of the SleepFacto®
The basic principle is the measurement of the moisture buffer in the comforter. A special measuring device is used for the examination which measures the increase in weight in the filling and ticking fabric in defined climatic conditions and determines the capacity of the moisture buffering. The moisture buffer capacity measured in this respect is decisive for the quality of sleep. The higher the buffering, the better the quality of sleep. Measurements have shown that there is sufficient moisture buffer capacity when the blending share of Lenzing fibers is at least 50 %. To be able to qualify for the SleepFacto® brand, this is a minimum requirement of the comforter submitted. The measurements themselves are performed at Lenzing. Confirmation and a license to use the SleepFacto®, are issued directly by Lenzing.
First „SleepFacto®“ award – co-operation with Advansa
The first product produced in accordance with these criteria, is the fruit of co-operation with Advansa. Both of these companies aimed to design a comforter with the very best sleep properties. The fibers Suprelle® Eco from Advansa and TENCEL® from Lenzing offer an ideal addition to materials. Together they make comforters softer and more moisture-active plus more eco-friendly since both fibers have the EU-Eco-Label.
