New fiber for professional clothing

TENCEL® in medical applications
The cellulose fiber TENCEL® is already successfully in use in Austrian hospitals. In professional clothing for the medical field, for example in doctor’s surgeries and clothing for operating theatres, the properties of TENCEL® are used to particular effect: lower bacterial growth, optimum skin-sensory products and excellent moisture management guarantee superior wear comfort compared to conventional professional clothing.

Enhanced functionality and Nature
TENCEL® is used in fabrics with polyester where it guarantees higher moisture absorption and more well-being for the skin than conventional cotton. With a share as small as 30 % of TENCEL®, the difference is already perceptible when it comes to the wear comfort.
Another major strength of TENCEL® has to be its naturalness. The natural origin and eco-friendly production make TENCEL® attractive as an „organic“ blending partner. Thus Lauffenmühle are using TENCEL® in combination with „Organic Cotton“ in their fabrics to establish a new “eco” line.

Neutral-smelling – enhanced functionality
TENCEL® absorbs up to 50% more moisture than cotton. This optimum moisture management creates an unattractive climate for bacteria. In general up to 2000 times fewer bacteria grow on TENCEL® than on polyamide. Tests have shown that especially those bacteria which spread the most disagreeable smells have only a slight chance of multiplying on TENCEL®. However, a wealth of bacteria grows on textiles made of 100% synthetic fibers which leads to unpleasant odors.

A veritable blessing for the skin
TENCEL® reveals sensitive properties and ensures well-being for the skin. The combination – a smooth fiber surface and excellent moisture absorption – translates into a positive skin climate. If one compares the fiber surface of cotton and TENCEL® then the difference becomes immediately obvious: cotton demonstrates an irregular surface and TENCEL® is smooth and supple.

TENCEL® demonstrates its strength
TENCEL® is the strongest cellulose fiber. The high tenacity profile in both the wet and dry state is superior to any other cellulose fiber. This increases the dimensional stability in every end product and makes TENCEL® professional clothing particularly hard-wearing and long-lasting.
