LENZING Energie > Power Stations > Lenzing

Power Station
Lenzing

For reasons of history and process design, energy production at the Lenzing site is divided into two units - Energy I and Energy II. Since the merger of the Lenzing Zellulose- und Papierfabrik with Zellwolle Lenzing AG (viscose fiber production) in the year 1969, the engergy sector has been developed jointly in a coordinated manner.

Both energy units are operated in interconnection:

  1. common electrical grid, joined to the EVU grid (EAG-110kV)
  2. common low-pressure steam network
  3. common high-pressure steam rail

Today Lenzing AG energy production is characterized by almost fully combined power and heat generation, high energy efficiency, optimized fuel input and the promotion of biogenic and waste fuels.

Energy I:

Energy I is located on the left bank of the river Ager. Its main responsibility is to generate and provide steam and electricity. Beyond that it provides accessory energy and media, and handles waste and residual materials for the whole location.

The plants of the AVE-Reststoffverwertung Lenzing GmbH & Co KG are in the domain of Energy I and are operated by RVL GmbH (50 % AVE GmbH, 50 % LAG) for Lenzing AG.

Energy I is equipped with these main units:

  1. Boiler 1K6 - gas boiler
  2. Boilers 1K7 and 1K8 (RVL) - both are fluidized bed boilers with atmospheric circulation
  3. Turbines 1T1, 1T4 and 1T5
  4. Water treatment units for untreated water, well water, deionized water
  5. Hot water units for industrial and central heating
  6. Cooling unit
  7. Pressurized air unit
  8. Vaccuum unit
  9. Inert gas unit
  10. Fuel treatment unit and waste treatment unit for boiler 1K7
  11. Waste treatment unit for boiler 1K8 (RVL)

Energy II:

Energy I is located on the right bank of the river Ager. It is integrated into the cellulose production process. The units of Energy II are part of the closed Lenzing magnesium-bisulfite process. In particular they are used for the recovery of chemicals.

Beyond generating and providing steam and electricity the responibilities of Energy II are:

  1. Recovery of chemicals and production of cooking liquor
  2. Combustion of thick liquor form the digester
  3. Evaporation of OPE waste water from the bleacher
  4. Combustion of OPE thick liquor
  5. Cracking of magnesium monosulfites into MgO and SO2 and production of liquid SO2 in the monosulfite cracker

Energy II is equipped with these main units:

  1. Liquor boilers 2K6, 2K7 and 2K10 with dedicated chemical recovery
  2. Soda boiler 2K8 for the combustion of OPE thick liquor
  3. Saturated steam boiler 2K9
  4. Turbines 2T3, 2T4 and 2T5
  5. Evaporation unit for OPE waste water concentration
  6. Cracking of magnesium monosulfites and production of liquid SO2
