PEFC Award for Lenzing
Wednesday, 16. November 2011

Herbert Grill is honored with the PEFC-Award to recognize his remarkable support of the PEFC-goals.
Whilst the „International Year of the Forest“ is drawing to a close, the Austrian Timber Talks (Österreichische Holzgespräche) took place on 9 November 2011. Within the framework of this event, the PEFC-Award was conferred for the first time. The award honors people from PEFC-certified companies who have exhibited outstanding support for the goals of the PEFC program. This translates into exemplary measures in the sense of ecological, economical and socially sustainable forest management.
Herbert Grill commented: „For years, the Lenzing group has been committed to the principles of sustainability. At our production site in Lenzing we attach particular importance to the sustainable origin of the beech trees. The wood originates from European forests - frequently also from family-run companies. The PEFC-certification enables us to prove and to promote the fact that we use the wood sustainably.“
As a processor of timber, Lenzing has a great responsibility to uphold. With the PEFC-certification of nonwoven fibers at the Austrian site in Lenzing, the company is laying a foundation stone for the Chain of Custody Certification - from timber to the end product. PEFC-certification for the site in Austria applies to Lenzing Viscose® and Lenzing Viscostar® fibers for nonwoven applications.
Products with the PEFC label provide the consumer with assurance when purchasing products based on wood. Wolfgang Plasser, General Manager of Lenzing’s Business Unit Nonwovens, explains: „Sustainability put into practice is strictly anchored in the principles of the Lenzing group. This award confirms that we are on the right track.“
