Spin bath filtration

Spin bath filtration with sand filters

The spin bath is filtered through a number of sand filters arranged in parallel. The spin bath is pressed from the top through a sand bed, where solids are removed from the liquid. The contamination of the filter sand is monitored by means of differential pressure monitoring. If a certain pressure value is reached, filtration is stopped and the sand bed is backwashed. During the backwash process, the other filters continue to work normally.

Backwashing step 1 with compressed air

  • The spin bath level in the filter is lowered.
  • Bursts of compressed air are fed at set intervals from the bottom through the sand filter bed.
  • Contaminants are removed from the filter bed and suspended in the air.

Backwash step 2 with spin bath

  • The suspended contaminants are flushed by a strong spin bath flow (filtered backwash bath) from the sand filter and fed to a feed tank for unfiltered backwash (requires downstream backwash bath filtration).
  • As the chemical compositions of the backwash bath and the spin bath in the circuit are the same, the backwashed filter can be restarted again without the need for any further measures.
